Look into your kitchen cupboard. You know the one.. the one with all the out-of-date expiry dates. What’s going on? Why do we keep on searching for the next amazing supplement that’s going to solve every health problem we ever had?
So.. why do we keep doing that?
One would have to assume – in absence of better information – that all those pills just didn’t work. I know that in some cases we get so health obsessed that we seem to have embarked on some sort of eternal journey. Knowing the latest health strategy seems to be the most important thing in our life – and then we just sort of ‘disappear’ all previous supplements, banishing them to the kitchen cupboard but too embarrassed with ourselves to actually throw them out.
I’ve been on molecular hydrogen water for many years. I attribute my present body health to that water. I’m not going to argue about diet. Everyone believes their diet to be the best, but water? No-one has better water than me.
Strangely, it was only three years ago that I learned my water contained H2 – molecular hydrogen.

Why do I persist with drinking my H2 water every day? Because I’ve realised that an overall body supporting supplement is the best way to approach supplementation. And yet.. Japanese scientists have been studying the most basic element on earth for the last decade.. and the studies – now over 600.. support my mad desire!
What they have concluded is that molecular hydrogen (diatomic hydrogen / H2) – can do all this.. and more. In japan, and now worldwide, H2 has become a major area of scientific research.
Healing Waters? Really?
We’ve all heard of the famous springs- natural water sources – that offer healing or curative properties. Now we know why! Scientists found H2 in samples from Nordenau (Germany), Tlacote (Mexico) and Hita Tenryosui, (Japan). They have theorized that the H2 in these springs (and others) is the result of water reacting with alkali-earth metals, or perhaps from molecular hydrogen gas-producing bacteria and algae.
No matter whether it’s minerals or microbes, the science now has a reason for the myriad stories of healing at these springs.
Molecular Hydrogen – What is it?
Hydrogen is the lightest and simplest element. It is first on the Periodic Table of Elements.
It is also the smallest molecule. It has just one electron and one proton. It is colorless, odorless, non-metallic, non-toxic and tasteless. Because of its infinitesimally miniscule size, it is can permeate even sub-cellular structures such as the mitochondria making it extraordinarily bioavailable and capable. It even crosses the blood-brain barrier – something no drug has been able to achieve.

Of course, I am well aware that there have been many ‘miracle supplements’ claiming similar outcomes but never so many effects. But I am reminded of the other stories where excessive consumption has caused serious health issues as ingredients in these miracle cures accumulate in the body. This is where things are very different with H2. Its size means it is basically flying free through the empty spaces within the molecules that make up your body. It chooses its path and if it finds nothing to react with – like the DNA chomping Hydroxyl Radical – it simply passes out of the body. It does not build up – and therein lies the difference.
Safe – And Natural.
H2 isn’t something alien to us like a pharmaceutical drug. Our body produces small amounts of H2 gas from the bacteria in our digestive tract as it digests vegetable fibres, which diffuse into the bloodstream.

Why H2 is a uniquely better antioxidant
We know that chronic oxidative stress is one of the major causes of aging and modern chronic diseases. We also know that there are many antioxidants available. And yet, they have shown only limited success in therapeutic trials. H2 has distinct advantages, prompting researchers to propose it as a NOVEL antioxidant with superior therapeutic and preventive applications.
• H2 is the smallest molecule.
Other antioxidants such as Vitamin C or Vitamin E are big by comparison. They must also be digested, absorbed, transported and finally taken up by the cells. H2 penetrates the stomach lining quickly and acts within the cells immediately. It can penetrate every part of the cell more effectively protecting DNA, RNA, and proteins against damaging oxidative stress.

Our whole culture is out of balance. We are all subject to the ravages of free radical aging, and it’s clear to me that we lack something natural that may universally address our aging process.
The science is there. The hundreds of reports point to one truth: that H2 is a powerful and effective foundation for better health, wellness, and slowing the aging process.
So let’s break down the aging process into its major players.
Inflammation and resultant Pain.
• For most of us, ageing = aching. H2 has been shown to reduce inflammation and pain. H2 has been shown to be a powerful anti-inflammatory. It is also can potentially modify the switched on genes that create a constant state inflammation. This sin’t a drug-like approach. It is supporting our natural healing functions.

I’m 71 this year so perhaps I am not a good person to talk about athletic performance and H2. On the other hand, my observation of my own life is that I have amazing energy. I work hard at home in our one acre garden, and here at AlkaWay. I look at my peers and wonder what happened to them. They are old men. I can’t even relate to them.
However, let’s talk athletes. They do experience more oxidative stress than sedentary individuals and they can also experience chronic dehydration.

Understanding Free Radicals and Antioxidants… are they really the key to Longevity?
For the last 17 years I’ve been getting emails every single day promising me freedom from ageing. I’m 71 this year and in my own opinion and that of my beloved, I’m doing good.
How did I escape premature aging, mental decline, and/or a life of chronic illness? Well, I can only speak from experience, and it says WATER. That’s the one factor in my life that seems different to all of my crusty old friends I see hobbling around at the local Farmers’ Market.
Now I’m in a situation where some people, at least, listen to me. They listen to me because they see that I look good. Yes, I know some stuff, but frankly, I’ve learned that most people don’t make scientific decisions. Indeed, the web has made it easier for people to NOT believe in scientific investigation. So I can only help people within the limits of how they choose to be helped.
So.. what I have to share is simple and straightforward. That’s because I believe if you hear what I say, YOU will do the work to fill in the gaps preventing you from taken real action towards better health and longevity.
To understand why we develop certain illnesses and how to prevent them, there is one big concept to understand. It’s the balance between two forces in the body… free radicals and antioxidants.
We are always seeking balance within. I sought in for many years to achieve a balance between alkalis and acids in my body.
There are many balance systems at play all the time. Water vs. dehydration, hot vs. cold.. and our familiar symptoms of imbalance -coughing, fevers, runny noses, etc. are simply telling us we are not balanced.
The 24/7 conflict between free radicals and antioxidants may be the most important balance mechanism we have. It could mean the difference between energy, resiliency, and long-term vibrant health…vs. a life of chronic fatigue, sickness and pain.
What are they and what do they do?
A free radical is an atom or group of atoms with an unpaired electron. It is therefore unstable, seeking something it can react with. To stabilize themselves (specifically, their outer valence shells), free radicals will try to steal an electron from a neighbouring, stable molecule. If a free radical does manage to ‘steal’ another electron from a nearby molecule, it leaves the target short an electron. It has made the former healthy molecule into a new free radical. This new free radical will in turn attempt to try and steal another electron. You’ve heard of nuclear chain reactions.. few of us realise we have them going on all the time within our own bodies!
A more familiar term relating to this effect is oxidative stress. To oxidate is to ‘burn up’. So you are burning up your own body as a result of free radical chain reactions. Inflammation may be a more familiar term. That’s the effect of oxidative stress.
How are free radicals formed?
Free radicals are formed as a result of our normal metabolism, or as a result of environmental factors (unhealthy dietary choices, stress, smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise, inflammation, drugs, and exposure to radiation and air pollutants).
Even the air we breathe today can be a cytotoxic free radical. There are about 3-5 free radicals in every 100 molecules in the air.
But.. contrary to what all the antioxidant sellers try to tell us, not all free radicals are bad.
Many are simply generated to act as janitors to our normal metabolic waste.
However.. the most common and destructive of the bunch are oxygen free radicals is the reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS can damage DNA, RNA, cell membranes, and proteins, and ultimately contribute to the onset of almost all health conditions and premature aging.
I, and you.. consist of approximately 30 trillion cells, consisting of even smaller structures called molecules. We all have a huge array of molecules within us, but some molecules, including fats, DNA, RNA, cellular membranes, proteins, and vitamins are more vulnerable to free radical formation.
Antioxidants are stable molecules. They have a critical role in our body’s ability to neutralise toxic free radicals, because they can donate extra electrons without losing stability. Often called “free radical scavengers,” antioxidants’ capacity to neutralize free radicals prevents the radicals from destroying our body’s healthy cells.
Where do we get them?
Our body naturally generates some of the antioxidants we require, but the majority are acquired through our diet. Dietary antioxidants are generally obtained through fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and nutrient-dense, plant-based foods. Some dietary antioxidants are taken orally in the form of vitamin supplements and include beta-carotene, lycopene, and vitamins A, C, and E, (to name a few).
But.. Houston, there is a problem. And it’s called ‘Lifestyle’!
Our bodies can effectively combat some free radicals with the antioxidants we naturally produce or get via diet, but the stressors and toxins of the modern world generate more free radicals than our bodies are equipped to handle. Eeven a small amount of excess free radicals in our system can cause tremendous damage over time.
Free radicals are seen as something we should get to fix.. eventually. And yet the damage is happening daily and it is non-reversible, so the sooner the better we take a step towards rebalancing.. the sooner we see the benefits.. and the longer we live to enjoy the benefits!
Molecular Hydrogen (H2): A Unique Form of Antioxidant
As the most powerful antioxidant in existence, molecular hydrogen (H2) is unique. It’s unlike any other antioxidant.
First, it is unique in that it is a SELECTIVE antioxidant, which means that it will ONLY scavenge the most toxic free radical. The Hy7droxyl radical. That’s the DNA-chomping radical. In its journey through our inner landscape, it sails past the free radicals our body requires to carry out various normal cellular processes.
If we look at most antioxidants recommended to us by the scientific community we see scathing reports of their potentially damaging effects. Other antioxidants unable to differentiate between the “good” and the “bad” oxidants, suppress ALL oxidants. This might even cause even MORE damage as they rid our body of the oxidants essential for functions like cell signaling and gene expression.
Let’s, however, not get heavy handed here, for there are notable exceptions. There have been cases demonstrating that high doses of vitamin C, for example, may show benefits.
However, the majority of the literature reveals that these antioxidants at normal doses do not offer the benefits we hope for. They either do not scavenge enough of the cytotoxic free radicals to make a significant impact.. or they can’t reach and penetrate areas of the cell where they need to be (i.e. mitochondria, nucleus, etc.).
This ‘elite’ ability of H2 to penetrate anywhere, even into the mitochondria, and then identify only the enemy sounds a bit like the team that found Osama Bin Laden.
To follow through with this er.. clumsy analogy, supplemental antioxidants are like a cluster bomb… they still get rid of the destructive free radicals, but they also damage the entire surrounding area and can even harm innocent cells. Their incapacity to distinguish the target can ultimately end up causing greater harm than good.
I just mentioned its ability to ‘go anywhere’. Molecular hydrogen has the capacity to dissolve into and move across cell membranes, the blood brain barrier of the central nervous system, and ultimately ANY compartment of our bodies.
Comparatively speaking, H2 is far, far more bioavailable. It allows my body to easily absorb its benefits. No other antioxidant can reach the powerhouse of our cells – the mitochondria, right to its nucleus, and all compartments of our body.
No other antioxidant has the ability to penetrate these biological membranes as efficiently (and with absolutely zero negative side effect or residuals…the only byproduct of a successful mission is H2O). Its magic is in its size and its simplicity.
H2 can also activate the NrF2 pathway, our most powerful self-defense system against free radicals. It even has the ability to prevent the actual formation of Hydroxyl radicals. Finally, molecular hydrogen has incredibly powerful anti-inflammatory properties, in turn addressing the root cause of all diseases.

Effects of hydrogen rich water on prolonged intermittent exercise.

Recent studies showed a positive effect of Hydrogen Rich Water (HRW) intake on acid-basic homeostasis at rest. We investigated 2-weeks of HRW intake on repeated sprint performance and acid-base status during prolonged intermittent cycling exercise.
In a cross over single-blind protocol, eight trained male cyclists (age [mean ± SD] 41±7 years, body mass 72.3±4.4 kg, height 1.77±0.04 m, maximal oxygen uptake [V̇ O2max] 52.6±4.4 ml·kg-1·min-1) were provided daily with 2 liters of placebo normal water (PLA, pH 7.6, oxidation/reduction potential [ORP] +230 mV, free hydrogen content 0 ppb) or HRW (pH 9.8, ORP -180 mV, free Hydrogen 450 ppb). Tests were performed at baseline and after each period of two weeks of treatment. The treatments were counter-balanced and the sequence randomized. The 30-min intermittent cycling trial consisted in ten 3-min blocks, each one composed by 90 sec at 40% V̇ O2max, 60 sec at 60% V̇ O2max, 16 sec all out sprint, and 14 sec active recovery. Oxygen uptake (V̇ O2), heart rate and power output were measured during the whole test, while mean and peak power output (PPO), time to peak power and fatigue index (FI) were determined during all the 16 sec sprints. Lactate, pH and bicarbonate [HCO3-] concentrations were determined at rest and after each sprint on blood obtained by an antecubital vein indwelling catheter.
In the PLA group, PPO in absolute values decreased significantly at the 8th and 9th of 10 sprints and in relative values, ΔPPO, decrease significantly at 6th, 8th and 9th of 10 sprints (by mean: -12±5%, p<0.006), while it remained unchanged in HRW group. Mean power, FI, time to peak power and total work showed no differences between groups. In both conditions lactate levels increased while pH and [HCO3-] decreased progressively as a function of the number of sprints.
Two weeks of HRW intake may help to maintain PPO in repetitive sprints to exhaustion over 30 minutes.

We assume from what we hear that the use of a hyperbaric oxygen chamber is beneficial to our health, but it’s not totally so. Because it may generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), also known as free radicals, breathing oxygen gas at high pressures can cause what is known as oxygen toxicity in the central nervous system. It can even lead to multiple neurological dysfunctions, so beware of men on street corners whispering ‘Psst! Wanta cheap Hyperbaric?’
Oxygen gas has been present around the earth for 345 million years. It ‘s essential for aerobic organisms to generate energy during respiration.
However, anoxia plays an important role in the initiation and progression of various clinical conditions, leading to many hypoxic-ischemic diseases. Oxygen gas has been used in therapy for varieties of diseases. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy, defined as the inhalation of 100% oxygen gas at a pressure greater than 1 atmosphere absolute (ATA), can increase oxygen tension in arterial blood and tissue, improve the cellular oxygen supply by raising the tissue-cellular diffusion gradient. It is also beneficial to treat air embolism, soft tissue infections, radiation necrosis, impaired wound healing, and decompression sickness.
However, we’ve now observed several adverse consequences that have limited its use in hospital. Breathing oxygen at high pressures for sufficient duration can cause oxygen-induced damages in central nervous system, ranging from mild neurological symptoms to severe convulsion. Oxygen-derived free radicals may account for such damage. Reactive oxygen species (ROS), including superoxide anion (O2•-), hydrogen peroxides (H2O2), hydroxyl radical (•OH) which has the very strong oxidative capability, and nitric oxide (NO•), are generated during chamber use and these lead to toxicity during HBO therapy. At present, there is no effective antioxidant used in clinical practice, so the use of oxygen gas in treating hypoxic-ischemic diseases is limited.
The study indicated that H2 effectively reduced the nasty Hydroxyl radical, protected cells against oxygen toxicity resulting from HBO therapy, and had no effect on other free radicals.
Another example of just how unique molecular hydrogen (H2) is in counteracting and selectively neutralising the nasty free radicals in our body.

But.. we love to receive these new scientific report on the effects of using molecular hydrogen, and the total is now around 700. These two reports received today are impressive – to say the least!
Here’s a quote from the first report:
“Hydrogenized water increased dose-dependent SIRT1 gene expression. Hydrogenized water also increased telomerase activity (an anti-aging biomarker in HUVEC cells) up to 148% when cells were treated with media containing 25% hydrogenized water formula. Increased
telomerase activity caused by hydrogenized water may be able to protect telomeres from degradation, suggesting the possible use of hydrogenized water in therapeutic interventions of age-related diseases.”
And the second report, which talks about inhales molecular hydrogen is equally impressive as a method of allaying the effects of the return of blood after resuscitation from a stroke.
“Inhalation treatment with hydrogen gas protects against neurological damage in a rat model of cardiac arrest, increasing the likelihood of survival and recovery, find researchers at Keio University and Nippon Medical School in Japan.
Many patients who survive cardiac arrest remain at increased risk of death. “Neurological dysfunction, cardiac damage and systemic inflammation can contribute to their ultimate demise,” explains Motoaki Sano, a cardiologist at Keio University. The stress from the one-two punch of oxygen deprivation and subsequent sudden restoration of blood stimulates the production of damaging molecules known as reactive oxygen species. These trigger inflammation and create regions of damaged tissue known as infarcts in the brain and other organs.”

You’ve heard it here and there. Molecular Hydrogen (AKA H2) leaves the ‘good guy’ free radicals to get on with their natural job of cleaning up our metabolic trash.
So how doe something as simple as H2 achieve this?
Simple really. There are very specific conditions required for H2 to react with the ‘bad guy’ free radical, the Hydroxyl radical (the DNA Munching one). And these conditions just ‘don’t compute’ for our good guy free radicals.
The conditions for the reaction between H2 and the hydroxyl radical (H2 + 2OH* => 2H2O) are favorable, while the conditions for H2 and other pro-oxidants are not.
This post popped up a few days ago. It’s one of some dozens I have seen in the last 3 years. I think there would be a vast number more if people really understood the benefits of molecular hydrogen infused water and actually checked on whether their expensive water ionizer was giving more than the therapeutic minimum of .3 parts per million.
“Just got my first H2 blue drops. First test of the 9.5 pH water coming from my E****** SD***of undetermined age, which was last deep cleaned probably about six months ago showed a concentration of about 0.2 ppm. No bueno. We ran 5.5 pH beauty water through it for a minute or two and the next test revealed about 0.4 ppm. Better, but still not good enough for me. Next to try a deep cleaning or at least a cleaning and check it again.”

Dr Mami Noda is Associate Professor, in the laboratory of Pathophysiology, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyushu University, Japan.
She has been witness to the rise of the electric water ionizer and of molecular hydrogen. Her comments here come with real authority. If you are still wondering whether you should go the ‘old’ way of an electric water ionizer or the ‘new’ way of a molecular hydrogen water system, her comments have great relevancy.
“I have been involved with pharmacology for over 30 years. After my postdoctoral fellow at the Rockefeller University, I continued my research at Kyushu University, where “alkaline ionized water” was initially studied in 1997. Although there was a significant amount of false information contained in the marketing, and it became quite popular in Japan, I remained skeptical. However, in 2005, a colleague shared some interesting data from a Parkinson’s disease patient who had been drinking this type of water, which prompted me to investigate its effects.
We knew that H2 gas was being produced during the process, but we did not think that H2 could have any biological effects, especially given hydrogen’s extremely low solubility in water (0.8 mM at SATP). However, by testing every variable of the water (e.g. minerals, pH, H2, etc.), it was clear that only H2 was exerting the benefit.
This became more believable once we saw the 2007 Nature Medicine publication, which demonstrated H2’s therapeutic effects. Our 2009 publication of an MPTP-induced mouse model of Parkinson’s disease also showed beneficial effects from H2. We later discovered that the benefits in this model were mediated by H2-induced gastric ghrelin secretion via a ß1 adrenergic receptor-dependent pathway.
Although hydrogen’s effect in Parkinson’s disease has now been confirmed in a human clinical trial, more research is necessary to reveal the molecular mechanisms responsible for the therapeutic benefits of H2. Because of hydrogen’s high safety profile, ease of administration, and its promising medical effects, I feel obligated as a pharmacologist to continue my investigations of H2 as a novel medical gas.”

We all know that oxidative stress is the result of cell damage and ageing, and so anything that we can do to reduce oxidative stress on the cell membrane is always a benefit for health and longevity. We were asked to review a large amount of review literature that has already been published on hydrogen where it has been established as being safe and non-toxic for the human consumption.
In these studies, they were both animal and human studies … We got this published in the International Journal of Clinical Medicine. We found that consumption of hydrogenated water (and since we being made up of 75% of water or more and need a good amount of water), found that the results coincided with beneficial outcomes in the individual laboratory, whether it was animal or human studies.
I definitely am recommending this to my patients, my family, I use it myself, and I would recommend this highly to all clinicians out there as well as all patients, family members.
…We have indeed quite a few young men who come to my clinic. My clinic is involved in seeing all types of patients. In a general practice, I’ll see anyone in the end stages of cancer, stage four, to a young, healthy athlete or a young high school male who is trying to improve his performance on the athletic field. What I have found of interest is that the people who consumed, in my practice, the … water that were involved in athletic performance saw an improved recovery time from their workouts, and improved intensity tolerance to their workouts, giving the young men in my patient population greater endurance for their performance during and then recovery after their exercise.
Further studies and clinical observation need to be done. I’m excited and look forward to doing more studies like that and get back to you and report to you on those as well, but I can clearly say that is coincides with my research and the review article that we published in the International Journal of Clinical Medicine.

Clinical research for ‘hydrogen inhalation therapy’ in more than 10 hospitals across Japan has proved it can help patients who have suffered from cardiac arrests.
The research, initially conducted on laboratory rats in 2012, proved that damage to brain functions and heart muscle tissues was reduced by inhaling hydrogen (H2) after cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Research accelerated from February this year, and patients who had been resuscitated after cardiopulmonary arrest were given a mixture of 98% O2 and 2% H2 to inhale for up to 18 hours. The research was based on a random patient selection process, and will continue for a further two years with a total of 360 individual cases examined.
Prof. Masaru Suzuki, Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine at Keio University Hospital, explained the details of the clinical study,
“It is the Double Blind Method – we are kept completely uninformed as to which patient has inhaled H2. We are conducting 360 cases, of which half inhale H2and half do not. The half that do not inhale H2 undergo regular treatment.”
If there is a clear effect, H2 will become a gas medicinal product which will have a big impact in the field of cardiopulmonary resuscitation
“We began research in 2013 to see if H2 could be skilfully mixed in with the O2 and air that the patient inhales and we did experiments to see if it could feasibly be administered to patients.”
“Common ventilators usually use platinum sensors for flow measurements but platinum actually becomes a catalyst when H2 is passed through so it cannot be used in this case. Instead, an ultrasonic type sensor was employed to monitor flow measurements. A premixed gas composed of 96% N2 and 4% H2 from a cylinder is mixed with O2 from ventilators prior to patient inhalation. Inserting more than 4% H2 directly into O2 is dangerous on account of the explosion threshold, so at this stage we are using just 2% of H2.”
“Medication dissolves in the blood and is carried throughout the body and there is the possibility that H2 diffuses without relying on blood flow, meaning it can easily pass through the blood brain barrier and even into the brain cells themselves. Additionally, because the heart and lungs are close to each other, when inhaled, H2 has the potential to reach the heart via diffusion, which can then be carried throughout the body.
Through experiments on animals, we have discovered that the positive effects from H2 inhalation is high. We would like to clarify these effects on people and verify the effectiveness of this method of treatment.
If there is a clear effect, H2 will become a gas medicinal product which will have a big impact in the field of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Research is moving fast across the world and it will eventually become a combined international investigation.
If this H2 inhalation therapy works with cardiopulmonary arrest, it would mean that even under the most severe conditions this treatment is effective. I think the potential for H2 in medical uses will spread endlessly on the back of this medical research.”

Inflammation, inflammation, inflammation: it’s everywhere on the net and used to sell millions of dollars worth of supplements. We are proud of the anti-inflammation properties of I LOVE H2, our molecular hydrogen supplement, but are ready to admit that diet always come first as our preferred health strategy. So we were excited to read that real science rather than marketing has narrowed down our food choices to the best anti inflammation foods on the planet.
A menu against inflammation
A few common foods may help rein in the chronic inflammation that contributes to so many diseases. A new study by the University of Liverpool’s Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease found that the polyphenols in onions, turmeric, red grapes, green tea and acai berries may be key to fighting the swelling.
To hone in on which foods might be most helpful in halting inflammation, scientists tested 31 polyphenols and six polyphenol combinations to see how they affected T-cells in the blood.
T cells are a type of white blood cell that circulates throughout our bodies, scanning for cellular abnormalities. Through cell-signaling molecules called cytokines, they call in the troops—other cells—when they find a problem that needs help. Prior to the study, little was known about the relative potency of different polyphenols in modulating cytokine release, according to a University of Liverpool release about the research.
University of Liverpool’s Sian Richardson, a co-author of the study, said: “The results of our study suggest that (poly)phenols derived from onions, turmeric, red grapes, green tea and açai berries may help reduce the release of pro-inflammatory mediators in people at risk of chronic inflammation. Older people are more susceptible to chronic inflammation and as such they may benefit from supplementing their diets with isorhamnetin, resveratrol, curcumin and vanillic acid or with food sources that yield these bioactive molecules.”
Ian: I agree with everything this study concludes. personally, however, I use I LOVE H2 for its anti inflammatory, antioxidant, anti allergenic, anti apoptotic and cell signalling support properties. All in one effervescent tablet.
The results were published in the British Journal of Nutrition.
Recent research has also suggested that vitamin D may be a part of a powerful strategy to reduce chronic inflammation and the related risk of disease.
We have so many studies on the effects of H2 now, but yes, most of them are on rats. So does that make a study valueless? No way! I was sent a study by a friend in Canada today, showing what happened when depressed rats were fed H2 water.
It appears that inflammation of the brain and free radical activity is a common factor in depression – in rats at least – and the study came out and concluded that hydrogen-rich water treatment prevents chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) induced depressive-like behavior.

Let’s talk about high blood pressure..and why chronic dehydration is seen by many experts the root of high blood pressure.
What is the common why to treat high blood pressure? Medication! For many people it does help drop their blood. But WHY do we have HBP? Have we addressed the root of the problem (chronic dehydration) or only masked it?
Over time there’s a high possibility that side effects of blood pressure medication may affect other organs.
People with high blood pressure on any form of blood pressure medication need to understand how dangerous high blood pressure is and what it will do to your body over time.
You don’t need to be a doctor to find out the root of your problem. It’s water. Or rather, the lack of it. To take it a little further. GOOD water.
According to the National Heart, Lung, and blood Institute high blood pressure (HBP) can lead to coronary heart disease,heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and more health problems.
“Blood pressure” is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage the body in many ways.
If you are a victim of this, you’re in a very big club. About 1 in 3 adults in the United States has HBP. The condition itself has few signs or symptoms. You may have it for years without knowing it. During this time HBP my be quietly degenerating your heart, blood vessels, kidneys, and other parts of your body.
Blood pressure doesn’t stay the same all the time. It lowers as you sleep and rises when you wake up. Blood pressure also rises when you’re excited, nervous, or active. If your numbers stay above normal most of the time, you may be at risk. Risk grows as blood pressure numbers rise. “Prehypertension” means you may end up with HBP.
If you’re being treated for HBP and have repeat readings in the normal range, your blood pressure is under control, but you still have the condition. You should see your doctor and follow your treatment plan to keep your blood pressure under control.

But.. we mentioned water. What does that have to do with it?
CAN INSUFFICIENT WATER CAUSE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE?
Absolutely. Think of cooking Porridge.
You have ample water in the pot. Once the oatmeal is cooked, you can turn the pot upside down and the oatmeal will run out of the pot. Why? Because gravity is strong enough to pull the oatmeal from the pot.
Put too little water in the pot when cooking the oatmeal, the oatmeal will not run out of the pot when you turn it upside down.
Why? Because gravity is not strong enough to pull the thick oatmeal from the pot.
This is what happens when you don’t drink enough water and end up dehydrated. When you don’t drink enough water, you don’t have enough water in your blood – causing your blood to become too thick.
When the heart squeezes and pushes the thick blood up into the aorta, the blood has to fall down out of the aorta where the aorta bends. This is the equivalent of turning the pot of oatmeal upside down.
There is an intrinsic link between chronic hypertension, renal (kidney) failure, dehydration and a deficiency of alkjaline minerals. The real irony is that pharmaceutical medications to treat high blood pressure may further exacerbate dehydration and mineral loss in the body, which contributes to and in many cases causes renal dysfunction and sets up pictures for heart disease and congestive heart failure.
Water and alkaline electrolytes are absolutely two of the most critical components of normal, physiological function. Without a correct balance of fluid and electrolytes, the cells of our body lack the essential electrical conductivity necessary for cellular energy production. When fluid retention (A.K.A. oedema) accompanies hypertension, it is a primary indicator of intracellular fluid loss, and an accumulation of extracellular tissue fluids.
Oedema has very damaging effects upon cellular function because it damages and impedes the electronegative colloidal properties of body fluids.
Blood pressure medications, such as thiazide are diuretics. Diuretics deplete the body of alkaline potassium and magnesium, two critical electrolytes which maintain normal blood pressure and cellular function.
So what can you do?
1. Ensure you drink sufficient water.
2. Ensure you are getting sufficient alkaline electrolytes.
There is growing evidence that molecular hydrogen, the smallest, most common element in the world may assist blood pressure problems. This study is one of over 700 studies into the effects of H2, covering over 150 disease conditions.

It’s almost a tie. Around half of our populated regions on planet earth have hard water, the other half, soft water.
‘Hard water’ is water with calcium and (perhaps) magnesium dissolved in it. The term refers to water from your tap.
‘Soft water’ is the opposite. It has little or no dissolved minerals.
Both have their problems, so let’s discuss them first.
Because it carries alkaline minerals, hard water is also capable of depositing these minerals when you use it. Typical problems are calcium encrustation on kettles, glasses, hot water system elements, dishwashers. Even the kitchen tap can block up with calcium!
Also, because hard water is high in calcium, drinking it increases the amount of calcium we get internally. This sounds good.. but without the right calcium management strategy, it can be quite dangerous, with possible CVD, and no advantage to your skeleton.
The WHO has made very clear that demineralised or mineral free water is NOT healthy. The recent scientific study of Israeli deaths attributed to reverse osmosis water demonstrates the problem.
We have a need for set ratios of electrolytes (charged minerals) in our body and lack of them does have a resulting longterm health effect.
People do get confused about what should stay in your water and what should leave, but the above dire result demonstrates that we do need some minerals in our water.
Our water filtration decision, therefore, comes down to:
Maximum contaminant reduction.
Minimum dissolved mineral removal.
Your two choices are reverse osmosis and non-reverse osmosis..
..has been sold as the ultimate filter. While reverse osmosis is effective for removing a variety of contaminants in water, the reverse osmosis membrane alone does NOT remove volatile organic chemical (VOCs), chlorine and chloramines, pharmaceuticals, and a host of other synthetic chemicals found in municipal water. However, some newer, more expensive R.O. systems now have multi-stage filtration media (in addition to the R.O. membrane), such as activated carbon, which does remove chlorine and certain pesticides.
It is seen as the best all round contaminant filter system but as we have seen here it’s now clear that drinking ’empty’ water is a real health risk. (lack of electrolytes)
Vendors offer remineralising cartridges but frankly, most are of very poor quality, do not give a regulated dosage over the life of the filter, and are usually sourced from China.
Reverse osmosis is also a hard install job, the most difficult of all filters to keep replenished with replacement filters, and the hardest to repair. If you buy a quality RO you will most probably be also buying an ongoing contract for filter replacement by a professional who has to come to your home.
.. is your alternative. I’ll keep to the basic points of comparison here because this is a BIG subject.
The standard carbon filter you can buy off the shelf at a big box store is a basic filter and doesn’t come anywhere near an RO for contaminant removal.
It’s usually GAC (Granular Activated Carbon) the cheapest and least effective form of the most common filter material, carbon. Carbon works for chlorine, taste odor and smell, some pesticides and lead, but only for a short time. This is why these filters never show you a life-of-filter test result. Their first day of use is their best and it’s all downhill after that!
More advanced filters may include technologies like activated catalytic carbon, fluoride reduction media, heavy metal reduction media and electro-adsorptive technology to remove viruses, bacteria and cysts.
These cost more, naturally (you really do get what you pay for in filtration!) but give filtration efficiency even better than RO in some areas, without the complexity of installation, support and maintenance. The most important comparison point to RO is that they allow dissolved minerals through, but also remove the nasty ones (heavy metals).
Effects Of Hard Water
The ‘mechanism’ of hard water effects is:
1. Water with dissolved calcium enters a water filter.
2. Calcium comes out of solution and accretes on internal surfaces.
This may be caused by heat, passing through filter media, or a change in pH.
This story highlights the crossover diagnosis that I am hearing about more often. And it’s exacerbated by the prevailing attitude of the established medical fraternity to Lyme disease. The US is ahead of us here in Australia where it’s not even considered a ‘real’ disease. So I was not surprised at this article about Kris Kristofferson.

I have a closer friend whose partner suffered as much through the misdiagnosis of her Lyme’s disease as she did from the disease.
