Fluoride Pre-filter with Housing

Fluoride Pre-filter with Housing removes up to 75% of fluoride from your water. Together with the UltraStream, the combined filters will remove up to 95% of fluoride from your water.

  • Fluoride Pre-filter is capacity is 475 Gallons (1800 liters), around 8-12 months, depending on water quality and condition.
  • Supplied with a 10″ filter housing.
  • Additionally, the filter is excellent for removing arsenic and lead.
  • Inlet and outlet suit ¼” tube.

Fluoride Pre-filter with Housing

Fluoride Pre-filter with Housing reduces up to 78% of fluoride from your water. Together with the UltraStream, the filters will reduce up to 95% of the fluoride from your water. Use for removing fluoride from your drinking water. Pre-filter also removes arsenic and lead.

How it works

Activated Alumina* is manufactured from aluminum oxide** by dehydroxylating it in a way that produces a highly porous material; this material can have a surface area significantly over 200 square meters/gram. The compound is used as a filter of fluoride, arsenic and selenium in drinking water (wikipedia.org/wiki/Activated_alumina).

Used in conjunction with KDF, already in the UltraStream, will filter any possible activated alumina eluted from the fluoride filter.

*Activated Alumina is not made from  Aluminium.  This material will not harm those persons with thyroid issues.
**Aluminium oxide (alumina; Al2O3), the same chemical substance as sapphire and ruby (but without the impurities that give those gems their color).

Toxic Fluoride Reduction

Activated Alumina Fluoride Reduction filter
The Activated Alumina media in this Flouride Pre-filter removes fluoride through a chemical reaction between the water and the media.  It is not dependent on an ion exchange***.

Fluoride Pre-filter with Housing contains an advanced refined and processed Activated Alumina (AA). The AA reduces Fluoride levels as water flows through it.  The longer the water has in contact with the AA media the better the media will filter out the Fluoride. Fluoride Pre-filter is designed to ensure water is spread across all the media to maximize contact time and area.

The AA media has a uniform particle size similar to ion exchange resins. It has minimal shrinkage or swelling and low-pressure loss. It is physically stable and can be used over a wide pH range.

The best results are obtained when the flow is limited to below 1 GPM (3.85 litres/min) and the pH is held at 5.5. Higher flows and higher or lower pH causes a loss of capacity. Most tap water pH is around 7 (neutral) but can vary depending on the state requirements.

It is estimated that at 1 GPM fluoride in the water the filter will cope with approximately 475 Gallons (1800L) before needing to be changed.

*** Ion Exchange filters are often presented as fluoride filters. Unfortunately, although they do remove up to 60% of the fluoride from drinking water, they store it and once ion exchange reduces through usage, all the stored fluoride will be re-released into the water.

Fluoride Pre-filter is also excellent for removing arsenic and lead.

Arsenic reduction – is very pH sensitive and capacity decreases rapidly when the pH is below 5.5 or above 6.  Arsenic removal is also affected by temperature and by the TDS (total dissolved solids) of the water source. Increasing temperature increases capacity, while increasing TDS decreases capacity.

Dissolved lead is absorbed by the media.  Capacity for lead is at least 0.4lb per cu.ft while maintaining greater than 98% lead removal. This process is not dramatically affected by flow rate, temperature or TDS. However, pH should be maintained above 6.0 as lead removal drops under acidic conditions and below 10 as lead precipitates under basic conditions.

Tech Specification

Dimensions and Weight:

Diameter 3.25” (82.6mm), Height 10″ (254mm).
35.5 lbs (16.1 kg).

Inlet and Outlet sizes:

The inlet and outlet are ¼” quick type connectors. Designed for ¼” rigid tubing.

Instructions

Tube connections

  1. Turn the faucet/tap off (or water supply)
  2. The inlet and outlet connectors are on either side of the pre-filter.
  3. The inlet/outlet labels are directly above the quick connectors.
  4. Connect the inlet ¼” tube to the inlet side of the pre-filter.
  5. Connect one end of the outlet ¼” tube to the outlet side of the pre-filter.
  6. Position the outlet tube into a bucket.
  7. Turn on the water and flush the filter for 10 minutes.
  8. Turn off water then connect the other end of the outlet tube to the UltraStream inlet (inside the base, there is a hole in the side of the base to access the UltraStream inlet).
  9. Turn on the water and check for leaks.
  10. Flush UltraStream as per the UltraStream installation instructions.

How to cut the rigid tubing for connecting to the Mini Pre-filter:

1. Use a very sharp knife or a razor blade to get a clean right angle cut.
2. Check to make sure you have a clean and even end.
